Ian Morrison 1945 Born Brisbane. 1957 Won scholarship to study at Queensland Art Gallery. 1966 Winner 1st prize for State-wide Warana Art Competition. For a long time Ian forsook his art while getting on with the business of life then on his retirement in 2008 he picked up his brushes and resumed his painting under the tutelage of Kevin Taylor. Ian’s work is strongly influenced by the old masters such as Caravaggio and Vermeer in that he uses a technique called Chiaroscuro whereby he models his subject by the use of strong tonal contrast. This gives his work a pronounced feeling of drama and depth. Though basically a realist painter his work also reveals an impressionist influence. He has exhibited and sold in a number of locations including: Royal Queensland Art Society. One award and eight sales Gold Coast Show. Two awards including 1st prize for portraiture. Royal National Agriculture Show. Three sales. Elanora Art Competition. One award and two sales. Darcy Doyle Exhibition. One sale.
