Rosa in steps

Rosa in steps

by Kevin Taylor

Rosa Step 1
First stage is drawn in using turps mixed with oil paint. Colour is darkened with blue for drawing adjustments
Rosa Step 2
Second stage is to underpaint using turps mixed into oil paint. Instead of using white, simply rub back paint allowing white canvas to show through. This allows the creation of different tones with minimal thickness of paint. Darks added later retain their strength by not mixing with wet whitened paint underneath.
Rosa Step 3
Once tones and hues are close to that desired, commence overpainting with undiluted oil paint. From here on, white is introduced as required, being careful to match the tones and hues achieved during the underpainting stage
Rosa Step 4
With continued overpainting, the work gradually takes shape
